personality

Of all the Vampires we meet in The Vampire Diaries, Lexi Branson is perhaps the one who is most at ease with who and what she is. Not the kind of person to get hung up on the mistakes of her past, Lexi appears to live in the now, constantly evolving over the centuries so that she never seems out of place in any decade she finds herself in. She's only too aware of the drawbacks in being a Vampire but rather than suppress and brood like one of her closest companions, Lexi faces the difficulties of bloodlust and heightened emotions with intelligence and forethought, whilst never forgetting to have fun along the way.

She has fun with her abilities, using her compulsion to get away without showing ID or to get herself free drinks. The casual manner in which she does this in 162 Candles suggests that Lexi makes a habit of it, even using her strength to playfight with Stefan and though she might loathe the comparison to Damon, the two do share the ability to kick back and drink a blood bag like it's a perfectly acceptable practice.

It's not all fun and games however. She understands that her survival hinges on the fact that who and what she is, remains a secret. She survived centuries as a Vampire by being careful and yet, she doesn't allow this to interfere with her ability to enjoy her life - or rather, unlife. The kind of person who uses humor and sarcasm to lighten any subject, Lexi won't dance around the more difficult or sensitive topics. She's always on hand with a Come To Jesus talk and is somebody you expect to show up in a person's time of need, even if it's to show a little tough love.

It may be hidden behind an exterior of snark that sees her claim to revel in hedonism but Lexi truly cares about others, giving much of herself in order to help those who have fallen down. She doesn't even know Stefan when as a young Vampire, he mistakes her for a human and tries to attack her and yet, she stays with him and teaches him how to learn and practise control, returning to his side over the next century every time he stumbles. Even death it seems, cannot stop Lexi from being there for Stefan.

Despite the pessimistic flavored attitude she throws around, Lexi has been shown to be the eternal optimist; believing Stefan can stay clean, get the girl, be happy. Believing that she can help Damon the same way she helped his brother, all because she saw the good in him when they first met and again, when she talks with Ric about finding peace in death. Not only is she an optimist, but she clearly believes in the possibility of true love and redemption.

Unlike some Vampires who appear to have withdrawn from society, separating themselves from humans, Lexi seems to be more comfortable in their presence. She fell in love with one after all (Lee), eventually turning him so that they might spend an eternity together. Her friendship with Bree, a Witch who also dies at the hand of Damon (all because she was seeking revenge for his killing Lexi), another example, along with the fact that she encouraged Elena to give Stefan a chance. Perhaps it's just the hopeless romantic that hides beneath the surface? Why should a little thing like mortality get in the way of happiness? She believes in great and epic loves and that as a Vampire, you aren't destined for just one, but a lifetime of love, loss, happiness and pain.

An unashamed meddler, especially when it comes to Stefan, Lexi doesn't have any problems sticking her nose into his (and probably other people's) business, feeling her best friend sometimes needs a nudge in what Lexi believes to be the right direction sometimes, playing matchmaker in the past and present with Rose, Elena and recently Caroline. Stefan's response every time hints that this isn't the first, and likely not the last time she's done it.

She appears to be good at reading people and yet, emotion and a desire to believe that people can change and grow has been her downfall more than once, even resulting in her death at the hands of Damon. She had the ability to recognize that he was up to something, but underestimated how far he would go in order to achieve whatever goal he had.

Though it is later revealed that Lexi's death was in part a result of what Damon felt seeing her again after what happened between them in the seventies, it hardens Lexi towards him in her afterlife. Not simply because he killed her, but because he betrayed her for a second time. She doesn't hate him however, she merely seems to have wiped her hands of him for good. She's had the opportunity to kill him when magical means allowed her to manifest in the physical realm, but it would hurt Stefan, showing that revenge isn't high on Lexi's list of priorities.

If anything, dying has made Lexi appreciate the moments when she gets to live even more, something that coming to Teleios will allow her to truly embrace. It's an opportunity for her to make up for all the time she has lost with Stefan, where she can say all the things she wanted to say whilst forced to stand on the sidelines, an invisible witness to everything that has happened in Mystic Falls.

This invisibility will also give her an advantage, Lexi aware of all the players involved in Stefan's life while they may not know who she is. As far as we know, she managed to avoid crossing paths with The Originals so though she might get a target painted on her chest simply by being Stefan's best friend? It wouldn't have been the first time it's happened and it would never be enough to see her abandon him.

Teleios will also force Lexi to stay put in one place for a length of time, something that goes against her nomadic nature. From conversations with Stefan, it's clear she doesn't believe in getting stuck in one place for too long and yet in the grand scheme of things, it's a very small price to pay for being alive (at least alive in the Vampire sense). Besides, as a ghost she wasn't forced to remain in Mystic Falls and yet from her many reappearances since her death, it's fairly obvious that death has helped Lexi to see that wherever Stefan is, is exactly where she wants to be.

Stefan's evolution as a Vampire is in many ways, one of Lexi's greatest achievements. He was responsible for getting through his addiction to blood and coming out the other side, but she was the one who moulded him, who helped him to embrace the good and separate himself from the bad. She is his greatest champion, even willing to come between the brothers if it means protecting Stefan, something she's seen to do many times throughout flashbacks in the series.

As much as she has helped Stefan to better himself, Stefan's restraint (even if it borders on self-flagellation) does make Lexi look like the reckless one at his side and a part of her even envies him for his self-control. Not enough to change her ways however, but certainly enough for her to respect it. She's seen Stefan during his darkest hours, in her life and death and though she wants nothing more than for him to really start enjoying his life, she would rather have the Stefan she knows than try and change him in anyway.

abilities

N.B. It's worth noting that Lexi does not own a daylight ring. Taken from The Vampire Diaries Wikia.

The supernatural forces that sustain vampires also endow them with enhanced physical abilities as well as powers of mind control. These powers and abilities grow stronger with time, age, and the consumption of human blood.

Super Strength - Vampires are noticeably much stronger than average adult humans and slowly grow stronger with time. They always have the advantage of superior strength in direct combat with a human. Even new vampires who are still in transition can toss an average size, fully grown human across a room with great speed and force. Their other feats include single-handedly lifting grown men high off the ground by the throat and snapping their necks, ripping people apart, and ripping out internal organs such as hearts with little to no effort. Their strength is also more powerful than that of werewolves that are not in wolf form. Their strength allows them to jump higher and further than any natural creature. Vampires who feed on humans are stronger than those who feed on animal blood.

Super Speed - Vampires are much faster than humans and werewolves in human form and can possibly out run a werewolf even in wolf form. Vampires can accelerate their movements to cover short distances in an instant, faster than the human eye can see. When running across long distances, they appear as vibrating blurs of motion. Their reflexes are similarly heightened. Like their strength, their speed increases with age.

Super Agility - Vampires possess superhuman agility. They have shown that they can move, jump very high, climb, and run incredibly fast without difficulty or exhaustion. Vampires can jump with their super speed too. Vampires that feed on human blood can jump much higher than vampires that feed on animal blood. These abilities increase with age.

Emotional Control - Vampires have the supernatural power and ability to control and manipulate the emotions of one's self, and others. They can "switch off" their ability to feel emotions - such as fear or guilt - allowing them to kill and feed without remorse and to go up against any opponent without fear. This power also relieves them of depression or sadness and is referred to in canon as their Humanity Switch.

Decelerated Falling - Vampires fall from great heights at a much slower rate than humans, almost appearing to float. This powers was first seen in Pilot when Stefan is seen jumping off the top of the Salvatore Boarding House and landing on his feet without any ill effects.

Dream Manipulation - Vampires can control dreams and the subconscious, giving them the ability to produce and modify dreams, bestow nightmares and lucid dreaming. They are also able to distort reality and trap a human in their dreams.

Super Senses - Vampires have extremely keen senses of hearing, sight and smell that far exceed those of humans and werewolves. They can hear whispered conversations, even ones in far of buildings and on phones, smell blood, and see in total darkness. These senses improve with time.

Compulsion - Vampires have the ability to influence/control minds, plague people's dreams, and alter/erase human memories.

Immortality - A vampire stops aging once turned. Upon their transformation, vampires then on become immune to all conventional illness, disease, virus and infection.

Healing Factor - Vampires heal extremely quickly, but still feel the pain of a wound before it heals. Vampires can snap their bones back into place after being broken and have been seen to fully recover from gunshots, stab wounds, and torso impalement. The only injury that cannot be healed on its own is a werewolf bite. A Vampire may also use its blood to heal others.

Super Durability - Vampires can take a great amount of damage without being slowed down. Even vampires who have been shot with wooden bullets have been seen to continue fighting, as long as they were not shot in the heart.

Fangs - Vampires can grow a pair of fangs, which they use to feed. Their fangs will occasionally come out and extend when they feed, are aroused by the scent of blood, or feeling intensely threatened or angered, especially if they are new vampires who have yet to gain complete control over their bloodlust.

Sire Bond - Although rare among them, Sire Bonds can be formed when a human is turned with the blood of the vampire whom they had strong human feelings for.

Eidetic Memory - Vampires possess perfect recall and are unable to forget. Their minds are often called "vaults" in which they stores all their information permanently, regardless of how far such memories recede into the past.

weaknesses

Decapitation - Dismembering or removing the head of a vampire will result in permanent death.

Fire & Sunlight - Prolonged exposure to fire or sunlight will result in permanent death.

Wood - Wounding a vampire with a wooden weapon will cause the vampire to become severely weak. Stabbing a vampire through the heart with a wooden stake will result in permanent death.

Vervain - Exposure to or ingestion of vervain causes a vampire to become severely feverish and weak. Also, physical contact with vervain will burn a vampire's skin. Vampires cannot compel anyone who has ingested vervain or has it on their person.

Heart Extraction - Removing the heart of a vampire will result in permanent death.

Invitation - Vampires cannot enter a home without an invitation by the owner. If they somehow get in they will presumably suffocate.

Magic - Vampires are susceptible to the powers of witchcraft - including the creation of harmful magical objects.

Desiccation - Vampires who abstain from blood for extended amounts of time will eventually desiccate and mummify.

Vampire Bloodline - If an Original vampire dies, all vampires descended from their bloodline will slowly perish.

Werewolf Bite - The bite of a werewolf and the poison is extremely lethal to vampires. It will cause them to hallucinate, grow severely weak and go rabid until it kills them. Klaus' hybrid blood can cure the bite.

Broken Neck - Breaking a vampire's neck will not kill it, but it will render it unconscious for few minutes. It was shown when Alaric snaps Stefan and Damon's neck they recover quickly.

Hunter's Curse - If a vampire kills a member of The Brotherhood of the Five, they will be tormented by the hunter until they kill themselves or if the hunter is replaced.

The Cure - If a vampire takes the cure it will become human again.

White Oak Ash Dagger - It is said that if a vampire daggers an original, they will die. It' safe to assume that what kills an Original will kill any other Vampire.

Lexi on the TDM

From the casual way that Lexi descended the stairs of the Salvatore Boarding House - The Bar, not the house, you could be mistaken in thinking that she'd been in Teleios all along, that her name was on the deed of the bar that she now walked behind, lifting a bottle of Whiskey from the shelf as if it belonged to her. Lexi had a knack for making herself at home, especially when home was owned by the Salvatores. In Stefan's case, she knew she was welcome. In Damon's case? She just didn't care.

It had been a few weeks since arriving in Teleios and though there were more than a few drawbacks, animal blood diet at the top of that list, it sure beat the hell out of being a ghost. She could stomach a little pigs blood until alternative arrangements could be made so long as Stefan could actually feel it when she slapped him upside the head. A chance to slap Damon around never hurt either, though she preferred he just stay out of her way while she was here. How's that saying go? Kill me once, shame on you? Kill me twice? She didn't intend to let it get that far.

Lexi had wasted far too much time trying to believe in the possibility of good in Damon and despite his attempts to change over the last year or two, she still saw him as a lost cause. Damon wasn't trying to change for himself. He changed in order to steal his brothers girl. She should have staked him years ago. Stefan would have been upset but he would have been better off for it in the long run. Damon was just lucky that Lexi loved Stefan more than she hated his brother. To be fair? He did kill her, so her disdain was warranted.

Hoisting herself up onto the bar, she took the pourer off the bottle, taking a deep drink without so much as cringing, her feet swinging casually over the edge as she leaned back, taking in the what passed for locals. Stefan had brought her up to date, a whole mess of supernatural beings with humans sprinkled into the mix. It bugged the hell out of her that she could no sooner pick a werewolf from a daisy via scent, but she'd get that back with time. Senses, healing, compulsion, speed, strength, a damn daylight ring? She was going to end up needing a whole lot of favors if she planned to get some normalcy going for herself but when you considered the alternatives? Lexi was okay with favors.

The itch to keep moving would eventually go away, she had over eighty thousand years to kill in this place after all and it helped that despite all the crazy they had going on here? Teleios was like a vacation compared to Mystic Falls. Stefan was better off here and Lexi was better off wherever Stefan was.

She took another deep swill of Whiskey, feeling the hot spot at the back of her throat cool, the one that hungered for blood, that throbbed at the mere sight of a beating pulse. She really had to do something about this diet of theirs. Stefan might have been the Captain of Restraint but Lexi actually enjoyed being a Vampire, human blood and all.
